A Library for the Subway- Adele Peters posted in Design, Product Design and Technology
Let’s say you’re stuck on the F train, trying to ignore the person coughing on you, a screaming baby, and a someone staring creepily. (No, I’m not describing my morning). Wish you hadn’t forgotten a book? Here’s an interesting idea from a group of design students: using tech to bring you the first 10 pages of a popular book on your phone, and then telling you the nearest public library where you can go pick up the actual book. Nice way to possibly get more people back in libraries.

Food Pr0n of the Day: #PantonePairings
PantonePairings is an Instagram-based art project that presents popular food combinations in the form of Pantone-style color swatches. Launched by Minneapolis-based illustrator and designer David Schwen, the color swatch project was apparently a happy accident that came out of an attempt to remix common household object pairings. Prints of the delicious series are in the works. Hat tip to Juxtapoz.

I am infatuated with the designs of the Uinta bottles. Their slightly snubbed shape is adorable, and I find the matte paper labels—with their high contrast, saturated colors—deeply satisfying. My recent Uinta purchases have definitely been due to my love of these bottles.

When this article referenced Starbucks and Sony as having responsive websites, I had to check it out for myself. Interesting to see the choices made across desktop, tablet, and mobile. I particularly like the Starbucks navigation.

Hanging at the Firefly Music Festival. Love the name and imagery for this event. What conjures thoughts of summer fun more than a jar of fireflies?

This blog combines some of my favorite things: documentation of food, graphic design, and a mission to check off all 50 states.

“We’ve been asked to design and produce the invitation card for LV store opening in Osaka. The starting idea was a paper object designed by us; its shape, expression of perpetual precision and pureness of the origami world, we wanted to meet with our intimate passion for special printing techniques.”

“Folksaga is a Swedish distillery of akvavit, a traditional scandinavian liquor. The concept behind the project was to broaden akvavit’s appeal to an American market while maintaining its rich, nordic roots. Each bottle features a popular folk tale from Sweden. Ranging from murky mermaids to terrible trolls, these mythological characters are always up to no good — preying upon travelers lost in the wild.”
